Steering Column Switches: Removal

1. Remove the driver air bag module. For additional information, refer to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
2. Tilt the steering column all the way down and extend it all the way out.
3. Position the front wheels to the straight-ahead position.
NOTE: Do not allow the clockspring to turn from its removal position.

4. Remove the parts in the order indicated in the following illustration and table.

Item 5: Steering Wheel Bolt Removal Note 

1. Loosen the bolt and do not remove it until the steering wheel has been loosened from the column.

Item 6: Steering Wheel Removal Note 

1. Using the special tool, press on the bolt until the steering wheel is loose from the column.
   • Remove and discard the steering wheel bolt.
   • Remove the steering wheel.

Item 10: Tape Removal Note 

1. Apply two strips of masking tape across the clockspring to prevent accidental rotation when the clockspring and multifunction switch are removed.

Item 15: Clockspring Removal Note 

1. Remove the clockspring and the multifunction switch as an assembly.

Item 16: Multifunction Switch Removal Note 

1. Release the tabs and slide the multifunction switch out of the clockspring.
