Removal and Installation

CAUTION:
Do not remove the power steering pulley from the power steering pump. The power steering pulley is not removable and damage to the pulley may occur.
CAUTION:
While repairing the power steering system, care should be taken to prevent the entry of contaminants or premature failure of the power steering components can result.
- Remove the engine appearance cover.
- Remove the air cleaner and the air cleaner outlet tube. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR, FUEL CHARGING, STARTING & ENGINE for 3.0L engine or INTAKE AIR, FUEL CHARGING, STARTING & ENGINE for 3.9L engine.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position on a hoist.
- Remove the LH front frame rail deflector shields.
- Remove the parts in the order indicated in the following illustration and table.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Fill and leak test the system. For additional information, refer to POWER STEERING SYSTEM FILLING in this section.
Item 1: Accessory Drive Belt Removal Note
- Release the tension and position the belt aside.
Item 3: Compressor Bolts (3.9L only) Removal Note
- To ease the removal of the upper air conditioning compressor bolts, remove the bolt and detach the power steering line retainer bracket aside.
Item 8: Pressure Line Fitting Removal Note
- Position the power steering reservoir out of the way.
- Loosen the bolts.
- Rotate the reservoir out of the insulators.
- Position the reservoir out of the way.
Item 8: Pressure Line Fitting Installation Note
- Install the power steering reservoir.
Item 9: O-Ring Installation Note
- Using the special tool, install a new Teflon® seal on the pressure line fitting.
