Test Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Lincoln LS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Check all pins of the sensor cluster and ABS module when removing connectors. Care should be taken when reinstalling these connectors.

  1. S1 - CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE SENSOR CLUSTER

    • Disconnect: Sensor Cluster C3073.
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the voltage between sensor cluster C3073-3, circuit 7-CF67 (YE/RD), harness side and ground.
    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
      1. Yes  : INSTALL a new sensor cluster. REFER to YAW RATE SENSOR  in this section. CLEAR the DTCs. RECALIBRATE the system. REPEAT the self-test.
      2. No  : GO to S2.
  2. S2 - CHECK THE STEERING WHEEL ROTATION SENSOR

    • Disconnect: Steering Wheel Rotation Sensor C226.
    • Measure the voltage between sensor cluster C3073-3, circuit 7-CF67 (YE/RD), harness side and ground.
    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
      1. Yes  : INSTALL a new steering wheel rotation sensor. REFER to STEERING WHEEL ROTATION SENSOR  in this section. CLEAR the DTCs. RECALIBRATE the system. REPEAT the self-test.
      2. No  : GO to S3.
  3. S3 - CHECK CIRCUIT 7-CF67 (YE/RD) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Disconnect: ABS Module C135.
    • Measure the resistance between sensor cluster C3073-3 circuit 7-CF67 (YE/RD), harness side and ground.
    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
      1. Yes  : GO to S4.
      2. No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. RECALIBRATE the system. REPEAT the self-test.
  4. S4 - CHECK CIRCUIT 7-CF67 (YE/RD) FOR AN OPEN FROM THE SENSOR CLUSTER

    • Measure the resistance between steering wheel rotation sensor C226-1, harness side and ABS module C135-7, harness side, circuit 7-CF67 (YE/RD).
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
      1. Yes  : GO to S5.
      2. No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. RECALIBRATE the system. REPEAT the self-test.
  5. S5 - CHECK THE CAN BUS CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO POWER

    • Measure the voltage between sensor cluster C3073-1, circuit 9-CF66 (BN/BU), harness side and ground.
    • Measure the voltage between sensor cluster C3073-2, circuit 8-CF66 (WH/BU), harness side and ground.
    • Is voltage present?
      1. Yes  : REPAIR circuit 8-CF66 (WH/BU) or circuit 9-CF66 (BN/BU). CLEAR the DTC. RECALIBRATE the system. REPEAT the self-test.
      2. No  : GO to S6.
  6. S6 - CHECK THE CAN BUS CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Measure the resistance between sensor cluster C3073-1, circuit 9-CF66 (BN/BU), harness side and ground.
    • Measure the resistance between sensor cluster C3073-2, circuit 8-CF66 (WH/BU), harness side and ground.
    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
      1. Yes  : GO to S7.
      2. No  : REPAIR circuit 8-CF66 (WH/BU) or circuit 9-CF66 (BN/BU). CLEAR the DTC. RECALIBRATE the system. REPEAT the self-test.
  7. S7 - CHECK THE CAN BUS CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TOGETHER

    • Measure the resistance between sensor cluster C3073-1, circuit 9-CF66 (BN/BU), harness side and sensor cluster C3073-2, circuit 8-CF66 (WH/BU), harness side.
    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
      1. Yes  : GO to S8.
      2. No  : REPAIR circuit 8-CF66 (WH/BU) and circuit 9-CF66 (BN/BU). CLEAR the DTC. RECALIBRATE the system. REPEAT the self-test.
