Test Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Lincoln LS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Use the Flex Probe Kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multimeter probes.

  1. J1 - CARRY OUT THE RECALIBRATION PROCEDURE

  2. J2 - CHECK THE NORMALLY CLOSED RELEASE SWITCH

    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Brake Booster C149.
    • Measure the resistance between brake booster 149-2 (component side) and brake booster C149-5 (component side), while applying and releasing the brake pedal.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms with the brake pedal released and greater than 10,000 ohms with the brake pedal applied? 
      1. Yes  : GO to J3.
      2. No  : INSTALL a new brake booster. REFER to BRAKE SYSTEM article. CLEAR the DTC. RECALIBRATE the ABS module. FOLLOW the diagnostic tool directions for the calibration procedure REFER to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK . REPEAT the self-test.
  3. J3 - CHECK THE NORMALLY OPEN RELEASE SWITCH

    • Measure the resistance between brake booster C149-1 (component side) and brake booster C149-5 (component side), while applying and releasing the brake pedal.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms with the brake pedal applied and greater than 10,000 ohms with the brake pedal released? 
      1. Yes  : GO to J4.
      2. No  : INSTALL a new brake booster. REFER to BRAKE SYSTEM article. CLEAR the DTC. RECALIBRATE the ABS module. FOLLOW the diagnostic tool directions for the calibration procedure. REFER to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK . REPEAT the self-test.
  4. J4 - CHECK THE BRAKE BOOSTER CIRCUITRY FOR A SHORT TO POWER

    • Disconnect ABS Module C135
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between brake booster C149 pins, harness side, and ground, as follows:
      BRAKE BOOSTER C149 PINS CHART

      Active Brake Booster C149 Circuit
      1 8-CF51 (WH/GN)
      2 10-CF51 (GY/OG)
      5 9-CF51 (BN/RD)

    • Is voltage present? 
    1. Yes  : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTC. RECALIBRATE the ABS module. REPEAT the self-test.
    2. No  : GO to J5.
  5. J5 - CHECK THE BRAKE BOOSTER CIRCUITRY FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Measure the resistance between the brake booster C149 pins and ground as follows:

      1 8-CF51 (WH/GN)
      2 10-CF51 (GY/OG)
      5 9-CF51 (BN/GN)

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
      1. Yes  : GO to J6.
      2. No  : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTC(s). REPEAT the self-test.
  6. J6 - CHECK THE BRAKE BOOSTER CIRCUITRY FOR AN OPEN

    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between ABS module C135 pins, harness side, and brake booster C149 pins, harness side, as follows:

      27 1 8-CF51 (WH/GN)
      28 5 9-CF51 (BN/GN)
      30 2 10-CF51 (GY/OG)

    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? 
      1. Yes  : INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE  in this section. REPEAT the self-test.
      2. No  : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTC. RECALIBRATE the ABS module. FOLLOW the diagnostic tool directions for the calibration procedure. REFER to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK . REPEAT the self-test.
