Test Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Lincoln LS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Use the Flex Probe Kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multimeter probes.

  1. D1 - CHECK THE ABS PUMP MOTOR

    • Key in ON position.
    • Is the ABS pump motor running all the time? 
      1. Yes  : INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE  in this section. CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test.
      2. No  : GO to D2.

  2. D2 - CHECK PUMP MOTOR OPERATION

    • Key in ON position.
    • Trigger the ABS module pump motor ON active command.
    • Does the ABS pump motor run for approximately three seconds? 
      1. Yes  : CLEAR the DTC. CHECK the yellow ABS warning indicator while driving the vehicle (brakes must not be applied) above 32 km/h (20 mph). If the yellow ABS warning indicator illuminates, RETRIEVE the DTCs. If DTC C1095 is retrieved, INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE  in this section. CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test. If the yellow ABS warning indicator does not illuminate, the system is OK.
      2. No  : TRIGGER the ABS module pump motor OFF active command. GO to D3.

  3. D3 - CHECK CIRCUIT 30-CF13 (RD) FOR AN OPEN

    • Disconnect: ABS Module C135.
    • Measure the voltage between ABS module C135-1, circuit 30-CF13 (RD) harness side, and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
      1. Yes  : GO to D4.
      2. No  : REPAIR circuit 30-CF13 (RD). CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test.

  4. D4 - CHECK CIRCUIT 31-CF6A (BK/YE) OR 31-CF6B (BK/YE) FOR AN OPEN

    • Disconnect: ABS Module C135.
    • Measure the resistance between ABS module C135-16, circuit 31-CF6A (BK/YE) harness side, and ground; and between ABS module C135-47, circuit 31-CF6B (BK/YE) harness side and ground. Then, measure the resistance between ABS module C135-16 circuit 31-CF6A (BK/YE) and C135-47 circuit 31-CF6B (BK/YE), component side.

    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? 
      1. Yes  : INSTALL a new hydraulic pump motor in the HCU. REFER to HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU) - VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE 8/2003  or HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU) - VEHICLES BUILT AFTER 8/2003  in this section. CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test.
      2. No  : REPAIR circuit 31-CF6A (BK/YE) or 31-CF6B (BK/YE). CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test.
