Pinpoint Test N: C1989: Park Brake Apply And Release Switch Contacts Energized Simultaneously

  1. N1 CHECK EPB PIDs 
    • Connect the diagnostic tool.
    • Using the diagnostic tool, monitor the EPB PIDs when the EPB switch is in its apply, neutral and release positions.
    • Do the EPB PIDs match the EPB switch positions? 
      1. Yes  : GO to N2.
      2. No  : INSTALL a new EPB switch. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. RESET the EPB system. REFER to ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE (EPB) RESETTING .
  2. N2 CHECK THE EPB CIRCUITS FOR SHORTED TOGETHER 
    • Disconnect the battery.
    • Disconnect: EPB Module C4205b.
    • Disconnect: EPB Switch C3218.
    • Disconnect: EPB Actuator C4206.
    • Check the following EPB module C4205b circuits for a short together.

      Circuit Description EPB Module Pin
      9-CG20 (BN/WH) EPB Actuator and EPB Switch Ground 12
      10-CG15 (GY/VT) EPB Release 6
      8-CG15 (WH/BU) EPB Apply 5
    • Are any of the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms? 
      1. Yes  : INSTALL a new EPB module. REFER to PARKING BRAKE . REPEAT the self-test.
      2. No  : REPAIR the affected circuits. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. RESET the EPB system. REFER to ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE (EPB) RESETTING .
