Removal & Installation (Rear Cable & Conduit)

- Pull out on the bottom of the parking brake control boot to disengage it from the plastic retainer. If necessary, pull the control handle upward.
- Using a small screwdriver, carefully lift the retainer tab and slide the boot upward.
- Disconnect the parking brake warning indicator switch connector. See Figure .
- Using a screwdriver, push down on the tension arm until it is fully depressed. See Figure .
- Lock down the tension arm with a pin or screwdriver. See Figure .
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Disconnect the rear parking brake cables. See Figure .
- Remove the rear cable and conduit from the body.
- Remove the rear cable and conduit from the holder. See Fig 2 .
- Remove the brake drum.
- Disconnect the parking brake cable from the parking brake lever. See Fig 3 .
- Compress the spring tabs and remove the parking brake cable and conduit. See Fig 4 .
- To install, reverse the removal procedure. Ensure that all retainers are secured and cables are routed correctly.
CAUTION:
The control boot is held in position by a small plastic retaining tab that engages a notch in the control handle. See Figure
. Failure to use care when removing the boot can result in damage to the tab and unnecessary replacement of the boot.
NOTE:
Spring tabs on the cable end secure the cable to the body. See Fig 1
