Removal & Installation (Control)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Ford Windstar and 2002 Ford Windstar. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Pull out on the bottom of the parking brake control boot to disengage it from the plastic retainer. If necessary, pull the control handle upward.
  2. CAUTION: The control boot is held in position by a small plastic retaining tab that engages a notch in the control handle. See Fig 1 . Failure to use care when removing the boot can result in damage to the tab and unnecessary replacement of the boot.
  3. Using a small screwdriver, carefully lift the retainer tab and slide the boot upward.
  4. Disconnect the parking brake warning indicator switch connector. See Fig 2 .
  5. Using a screwdriver, push down on the tension arm until it is fully depressed. See Fig 3 .
  6. Lock down the tension arm with a pin or screwdriver. See Fig 4 .
  7. Remove the cable anchor pin. See Fig 5 .
  8. Remove the control bolts and remove the parking brake control. See Fig 6 .
  9. To install, reverse removal procedures.
