Inspection & Verification

NOTE:
This vehicle is equipped with a programmable indicator flasher. It is possible during the life of the vehicle that the indicator flasher may need to be reset or re-programmed. If the battery has been disconnected or has lost power, carry out the Indicator Flasher Reset/Re-Program Procedure.
- Verify the customer concern by operating the system.
- Visually inspect the following for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.VISUAL INSPECTION
Mechanical Electrical - Multifunction Switch
- Central Junction Box (CJB) Fuse(s):
- 10 (7.5A)
- 21 (15A)
- Wiring Harness
- Connections
- If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
- If the concern is not visually evident, verify the symptom and proceed to the SYMPTOM CHART .
Indicator Flasher Reset/Re-Program Procedure
NOTE: When the vehicle is used to tow a trailer, the indicator flasher will recognize the additional turn lamps and will flash at a normal rate. After the trailer has been disconnected electrically, the ignition switch must be placed in the OFF position to reset the indicator flasher to the original lamp configuration. Failure to do this will result in the lamps flashing at a rapid rate, indicating a lamp failure.Reset Procedure
The following procedure should be followed to reset the indicator flasher:
- Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
- Disconnect the battery. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING & CABLES .
- Depress the brake pedal for 3-5 seconds (this will remove any remaining memory in the flasher).
- Reconnect the battery.
Re-Programming Procedure
The following procedure must be carried out with battery power connected to the turn signal system. Battery power must remain applied to retain correct functioning of the turn signal system. All turn signal lamps must be functional when programming the flasher. The flasher will program only in the turn signal mode. The hazard mode will not program the flasher
- Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
- Verify that the hazard switch is in the OFF position.
- Position the turn signal switch in the RH position. Allow the turn signal lamps to cycle or flash at least four times. If the flash rate is normal, proceed to step 8. If the flash rate shows a rapid increase (abnormal). Check for failed RH turn lamps. If the flash rate shows a shortened flash time (abnormal). Check for a short in the vehicle circuitry and repeat step.
- Position the turn signal switch in the LH position. Allow the turn signal lamps to cycle or flash at least four times. If the flash rate is normal, proceed to step 8. If the flash rate shows a rapid increase (abnormal); check for failed LH turn lamps. If the flash rate shows a shortened flash time (abnormal), check for a short in the vehicle circuitry and repeat step.
The operating characteristics of the turn/hazard system are as follows:
- Under normal operation, the cycle rate is approximately 90 flashes per minute.
- Under a lamp outage condition, the cycle rate is approximately 180 flashes per minute (double the normal flash rate).
- Under a current overload condition, the lights will not be fully on and they will be pulsing (after the first cycle or flash), indicating that there is a short in the flasher circuitry.
