Fuel Sending Unit
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Ford Ranger. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
The fuel sending unit is a variable resistor made up of a ceramic substrate. It is controlled by the action of a float arm. When the fuel level is low, resistance in the unit is low (16 ohms +/-2 ohms). When the fuel level is high, the resistance is high (160 ohms +/-4 ohms).
