Inspection & Verification

NOTE: The Generic Electronic Module (GEM) must be reconfigured upon installation. Refer to MODULE CONFIGURATION .
  1. Verify the customer concern by operating the system.
  2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.
    VISUAL INSPECTION

    Mechanical Electrical
    • Engine Oil Filter
    • Oil Pump
    • Engine Oil Level
    • Oil Pressure Gauge
    • Coolant Temperature Gauge
    • Door Adjustment
    • Engine Coolant Level
    • Water Thermostat
    • Battery Junction Box (BJB) Fuse(s):
      • 1 (50A)
      • 11 (50A)
    • Central Junction Box (CJB) Fuse(s):
      • 11 (7.5A)
      • 26 (7.5A)
      • 33 (15A)
    • Miniature Bulbs
    • Wiring Harness
    • Connectors
    • Instrument Cluster
  3. If an obvious cause for an observed concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  4. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the diagnostic tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If the diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
    • check that the program card is correctly installed.
    • check the connections to the vehicle.
    • check the ignition switch position.
  5. If the diagnostic tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the diagnostic tool manual.
  6. Carry out the diagnostic tool data link test. If the diagnostic tool responds with:
    • CKT930, CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70; all electronic control units no response/not equipped, refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK .
    • No response/not equipped for the Generic Electronic Module (GEM), REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULES , or for the 4-wheel drive (4WD) control module. REFER to FOUR- WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEMS .
    • System passed, retrieve and record the continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs, and carry out self-test diagnostics for the GEM or the 4WD module.
  7. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE (GEM) or 4-WHEEL DRIVE (4WD) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX  to continue diagnostics.
  8. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, proceed to the SYMPTOM CHART  to continue diagnostics.
