Steering Column - Manual Transmission: Disassembly

All Vehicles
- Remove the steering column. For additional information, refer to STEERING COLUMN .
- Remove the ignition switch.
- Remove the ignition switch bolts.
- Remove the ignition switch.
- Remove the bearing retainer.
- Remove the steering column lock housing bearing.
- Remove the steering column lock gear.
Vehicles With Fixed Steering Column
- Remove the snap ring from the bottom of the steering column shaft.
Vehicles With Tilt Steering Column
- Remove the sensor ring.
- Remove the steering column lower bearing spring.
- Remove the sensor ring.
All Vehicles
- Remove the steering column bearing tolerance ring from the steering column shaft.

Vehicles With Tilt Steering Column
- Remove the lock cylinder housing screws.
Vehicles With Fixed Steering Column
- Remove the two lock cylinder housing screws and the steering column spacer.
All Vehicles
- Remove the lock cylinder housing and the steering column shaft from the steering actuator housing.
- Pry up on the steering column lock left hand levers using a shop-fabricated tool.
- On tilt steering columns, remove the steering column position spring.
- Remove the turn signal cancel cam.
- Remove the snap ring.
- Remove the steering column upper bearing spring.
- Remove the steering column bearing sleeve.
- Remove the steering column bearing tolerance ring.
- Slide the steering column shaft in toward the steering column lock cylinder housing, then out.
- Slide the steering column bearing tolerance ring off the steering column shaft.
- Using a suitable punch, remove the steering column bearing from the steering column lock cylinder housing.
Vehicles With Tilt Steering Column
- Use a suitable punch to remove the steering column bearing from the steering column lock cylinder housing.
All Vehicles
- Remove the steering column bearing and sleeve.
- Remove the steering column lower bearing retainer.
- Remove the three bolts.
- Remove the steering column lower bearing retainer.
- 21. Remove the upper steering column lock lever actuator and the lower steering column lock lever actuator.
