Removal And Installation: Gear: Removal

  1. Remove the pinch bolt.

  2. CAUTION: Do not rotate the steering wheel when the lower steering column shaft is disconnected, or damage to the air bag sliding contact will result.

  3. Slide the intermediate shaft off the steering gear input shaft.
  4. Turn the ignition key to the locked position.
  5. Disconnect the power steering lines at the steering gear.

  6. Raise and support the vehicle.
  7. Remove the steering sector shaft arm drag link castellated nut.
    1. Remove the cotter pin.
    2. Remove the nut.

  8. Use the Pitman Arm Puller to separate the drag link.

  9. Remove the bolts and the steering gear (3504).

  10. Secure the steering gear in a bench vise, and remove the nut and lockwasher.

  11. Use the Pitman Arm Puller to remove the steering gear sector shaft arm (3590).
