Clutch System Bleeding
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
To prevent damage do not spill brake fluid onto plastic or painted surfaces.
NOTE:
The fluid in the brake master cylinder reservoir must be maintained at the 3/4 level or higher during air bleeding. Be sure to use High Performance DOT 3 Motor Vehicle Brake Fluid C6AZ-19542-AB or DOT 3 equivalent fluid meeting Ford specification ESA-M6C25-A.
NOTE:
The clutch hydraulic system must be bled whenever a clutch master cylinder, clutch slave cylinder tube or hydraulic clutch hose is disconnected.
- Fully depress the clutch pedal to the floor and hold it.
- With the clutch pedal held to the floor, loosen the bleeder screw until fluid and air are expelled from the system.
- With the clutch pedal held to the floor, tighten the bleeder screw.
- Repeat Steps 1 through 3 until no air bubbles appear in the fluid.
