Camshaft Position Synchronizer: Installation

  1. Ensure crankshaft is still at TDC No. 1 compression stroke. Install synchro positioner on CMP synchronizer by rotating synchro positioner until it engages notch in CMP synchronizer housing.
    NOTE: During installation, arrow on synchro positioner will rotate clockwise as gears engage.
  2. Install CMP synchronizer so arrow on synchro positioner is 54 degrees from centerline of engine. See Fig 1. Install CMP synchronizer retaining bolt.
  3. Remove synchro positioner. Install CMP senor. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Tighten nuts and bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Bleed cooling system. See COOLING SYSTEM BLEEDING  under COOLING SYSTEM.
