Removal And Installation: Shoes: Installation

  1. Install the brake shoe adjusting screw spring.

  2. Install the brake adjuster screw.

  3. Install the brake shoe inner retracting spring.

  4. NOTE: Lubricate the brake shoe contact point before installation of parking brake shoes using silicone brake caliper grease.
  5. Install the parking brake shoes.
    1. Set the primary shoe in place.
    2. Pull the secondary shoe rearward and install the parking brake shoe.

  6. Install the brake shoe hold-down springs.

  7. Install the brake shoe retracting spring.

  8. Install the wheel hub assembly. For additional information, refer to WHEEL HUBS AND BEARINGS - FULL FLOATING AXLE .
  9. Use Brake Adjusting Gauge to measure the inside diameter of the drum portion of the rear brake disc.

  10. Use Brake Adjusting Gauge to set the rear brake shoe and lining diameter to 0.5 mm (0.02 in) less than the inside diameter of the drum portion of the brake disc.

  11. Install the brake disc. For additional information, refer to DISC & DRUM .
  12. NOTE: Only apply parking brake one time.
  13. Burnish the parking brake shoe and linings.
    1. Accelerate the vehicle to 40 km/h (25 mph).
    2. Shift the transmission to NEUTRAL.
    3. Slowly apply the parking brake control to approximately one-half to three-quarters of its travel.
    4. Allow the vehicle to come to a complete stop.
    5. Release the parking brake.
  14. Check the operation of the parking brake.
