Fuel Tank - E550: Removal

WARNING: Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited, resulting in possible personal injury.
WARNING: Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure even when the engine is not running. Before repairing or disconnecting any of the fuel lines or fuel system components, the fuel system pressure must be relieved to prevent accidental spraying of fuel, causing personal injury or a fire hazard.

    ALL VEHICLES 

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
  2. Relieve the fuel pressure. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION-GASOLINE & DIESEL .
  3. Drain the fuel from the tank. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION-GASOLINE & DIESEL .
  4. Raise and support the vehicle.
  5. Disconnect the fuel tank filler pipe and the filler vent tube from the fuel tank.

    6. GAS ENGINE 

  6. Disconnect the evaporative emission hose.

  7. Disconnect the fuel tank pressure sensor electrical connector.

    8. ALL VEHICLES 

  8. Disconnect the fuel tank electrical connector.

  9. Disconnect the hoses from the fuel tank.

  10. Position a jack under the fuel tank.
    11. NOTE: Left side shown, right side similar.

  11. Remove the 12 bolts and lower the fuel tank.
  12. Remove the nuts and the fuel tank straps.

  13. If a new fuel tank is being installed, transfer the components as needed.
