Removal and Installation

- Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING .
- Remove the air cleaner assembly.
- Remove the rivet retainers and the air deflector.
- Remove the radiator upper hose.
- Disconnect the overflow hose from the radiator.
- Disconnect the coolant Gades bottle hose from the shroud.
- Using the appropriate Fan Clutch Nut Wrench and Fan Pulley Holding Wrench, loosen the fan clutch.
- Carefully rotate the fan and fan clutch assembly counterclockwise until the assembly is free from the water pump. Place the fan and fan clutch into the shroud opening.
- Disconnect the retaining clips from the shroud.
- Disconnect the lower radiator retaining clamp from the shroud.
- Remove the mounting bolts and the fan, fan clutch and shroud.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Install an appropriately sized worm drive-type clamp in place of the constant tension clamp.
NOTE:
The fan, fan clutch and shroud must be removed and installed together due to insufficient clearance to remove them separately.
CAUTION:
The clutch assembly nut has a right-hand thread and must be rotated counterclockwise to remove it.
NOTE:
Two people are needed to loosen the fan clutch pulley. From under the vehicle, have one person hold the fan pulley. The holding tool must be located at the 7 o'clock position. From the engine compartment, the second person can now loosen the fan clutch. The fan clutch nut wrench has to be located at the 12 o'clock position.
CAUTION:
Use extreme care when removing or installing the fan, fan clutch and shroud. Failure to do so will cause damage to the radiator.
