Removal and Installation

  1. Remove the engine oil indicator and tube.
    1. Remove the oil level indicator.
    2. Remove the nut and the tube.

  2. Raise the vehicle.
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4. Remove the engine oil filter.
  5. Remove the electrical harness and brake tube from the retaining clips.

  6. Remove the retaining nut and position the electrical harness out of the way.

  7. Remove the stud and position the ground cable and the transmission cooling tubes out of the way.

  8. Remove the steering bracket nut and bolt.

  9. Remove the starter. For additional information, refer to STARTERS - DIESEL .
  10. Remove the five bolts and the torque converter cover.

  11. Remove both lower motor mount retaining nuts.

  12. Remove the four crossmember front bolts.

  13. Remove the four crossmember rear bolts and remove the crossmember.
  14. Remove the twelve bolts from the oil pan.

    15. CAUTION: If the sealant is not cut all the way, damage will occur to the oil pan.

  15. Cut the oil pan sealant and remove the oil pan.
  16. Clean and inspect the engine block and the oil pan gasket surfaces.
    17. NOTE: The oil pan must be installed within three minutes after applying the silicone sealant. If the oil pan is not installed within three minutes, the silicone sealant must be removed and a new bead of sealant must be applied.
    NOTE: A larger amount of silicone sealant will be required on the front and rear areas of the oil pan.

  17. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

    Apply silicone sealant, to the oil pan.

    1. Apply a bead of sealant.
    2. Apply a bead of sealant.
