Cylinder Head - Right: Removal

ALL VEHICLES 

  1. Disconnect both battery ground cables. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
  2. Remove the engine cover. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION .
  3. Remove the parking lamps and the headlamp assemblies. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR LIGHTING .
  4. Remove the radiator. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .

    VEHICLES WITH AIR CONDITIONING 

  5. Remove the A/C condenser. For additional information, refer to AIR CONDITIONING .

    ALL VEHICLES 

  6. Remove the radiator grille, radiator grille opening panel and the upper radiator support. For additional information, refer to FRONT END BODY PANELS .
  7. Remove the turbocharger compressor manifold.
  8. Remove the accessory drive belt. For additional information, refer to ACCESSORY DRIVE .
  9. Disconnect the lower generator quick connector and push pins.

  10. Disconnect the lower generator electrical connector and push pin.

  11. Remove the engine ground cable.
    1. Remove the nut.
    2. Remove the starter wire retaining bracket.
    3. Remove the engine ground cable.

  12. Remove the lower generator mounting bracket retaining bolts and the mounting bracket.

  13. Remove the upper generator mounting bracket retaining bolts and the mounting bracket.

    ALL VEHICLES 

  14. Disconnect the generator electrical connectors.

  15. Remove the accessory drive belt tensioner assembly.

  16. Remove the generator bracket retaining bolts and the generator mounting bracket.

  17. Remove the glow plug relay/intake air heater relay and bracket as an assembly.
  18. Remove the transmission indicator and remove the retaining nut.

  19. Remove the bolt, and the transmission oil level indicator tube.

  20. Remove the RH valve cover. For additional information, refer to VALVE COVER - RIGHT .
  21. Remove the rocker arms and push rods. For additional information, refer to ROCKER ARM COVER, ROCKER ARM AND PUSH ROD .
  22. Disconnect the fuel supply tube.

  23. Disconnect the heater hose.

  24. Remove the fuel injectors. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEMS .
  25. Remove the inboard fuel injector hold-down bolts.

  26. Using the special tool, disconnect the high pressure oil hose.

  27. Disconnect the exhaust back pressure tube.

  28. Remove the two nuts and bolts from the exhaust manifold-to-exhaust adapter pipe.

  29. Remove the 18 cylinder head bolts.

  30. Install the special tools.
    1. Position the special tool on the cylinder head.
    2. Install the bolts.
    3. Install the special tool.

  31. With an assistant, lift the cylinder head and remove it from the vehicle.

  32. Clean and inspect the cylinder head mating surfaces.
