Removal and Installation

- Remove the air cleaner assembly.
- Remove the engine cover. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION .
- Unclip the accelerator cable and speed control cable, if equipped.
- Remove the clip push pin and remove the accelerator control splash shield.
- Discard the clip push pin.
- Disconnect the idle air control (IAC) valve connector.
- Remove the idle air control (IAC) valve assembly.
- Disconnect the following at the throttle body (9E926):
- Accelerator cable (9A758)
- Speed control actuator cable (9A825) (if so equipped)
- Disconnect the accelerator cable and speed control actuator cable, if equipped, from the cable bracket.
- Disconnect the spark plug wire holders.
- Remove the 12 bolts and the upper intake manifold (9424).
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Inspect the intake manifold upper gasket. Install a new gasket, if necessary.
- Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown in two stages:
- Stage 1: Tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).
- Stage 2: Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
NOTE:
Install a new accelerator control splash shield clip push pin.
