Removal and Installation

- Disconnect the battery ground cable(s) (14301) and wait at least one minute. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
- Deactivate the supplemental restraint system (SRS). For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEACTIVATION AND REACTIVATION .
- Remove the driver air bag. For additional information, refer to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
- Loosen the steering wheel bolt.
- Use the 2-Jaw Puller to detach the steering wheel (3600).
- Remove and discard the steering wheel bolt.
- Remove the steering wheel while routing the wires from the clockspring through the steering wheel.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Reactivate the supplemental restraint system (SRS). For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEACTIVATION AND REACTIVATION .
NOTE:
Make sure the wheels (1007) are in the straight-ahead position.

Removing the steering wheel without using a puller can damage the column bearings.
