Rear Brake Caliper: Reassembly

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 1999 Mercury Tracer, 1999 Mercury Mystique, 1999 Ford Escort, 1999 Ford Contour, and 1998 Mercury Tracer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Use clean brake fluid to lubricate components during installation. Install NEW seal on adjusting spindle, and position in caliper. Install adjuster springs and cupped washer on spindle. Apply pressure to cupped washer, and install parking brake lever and cam. Ensure brake lever and cam are lubricated with high-temperature grease.
Install dust boot on parking brake lever, and secure with strap. Install plastic cover over dust boot. Lubricate guide pin, seals and bushings with high-temperature grease, and install seals and guide pin into caliper. Loosely install bleeder screw. Position piston seal in caliper bore, and install dust boot on piston. Install dust cover on piston and adjuster.
Using Rear Caliper Adjuster (T87P-2588-A), turn piston clockwise to install piston. Lubricate inside of dust cover with high-temperature grease, and position dust cover in caliper. To complete assembly, reverse removal procedure. Bleed brakes. See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM .

Use clean brake fluid to lubricate components during installation. Install bleed screw. Install operating lever onto caliper. Install spring onto lever. Install seal and ensure it is not twisted and is seated in groove.
Lubricate connecting link, NEW "O" ring and adjusting bolt, and install into caliper. Install snap ring. Lubricate NEW dust seal, and install seal onto piston. Install piston into caliper bore.
Position manual adjustment gear into caliper. Using Allen wrench, turn adjustment gear counterclockwise until tight. Install plug in caliper. To complete assembly, reverse disassembly procedure. Bleed brakes. See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM .
