Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS): Removal

Ensure right front seat is removed before servicing OCS. Remove power seat switch knobs. See Figure . Remove front seat side shield screws. Remove power seat switch bezel. Remove remaining front seat side shield screw. Disconnect power seat switch connectors and remove side shield. Remove climate control duct. Disconnect front seat electrical connectors.
On models equipped with manual lumbar adjuster, remove lumbar adjuster knob. Remove lumbar adjuster retaining screws. From inside lumbar adjuster mechanism, push screw stop in toward center. See Figure . While pushing screw stop toward center, rotate lumbar adjustment mechanism counterclockwise, until screw stop passes clear of internal stop and releases lumbar adjustment screw.
Continue rotating lumbar adjustment mechanism counterclockwise until cable support comes out. See Figure . Push screw out enough to remove cable end. Guide lumbar adjuster cable out from seat cushion frame.
On all models, remove power seat track mounting nuts. Remove seat cushion frame, trim cover, foam pad and OCS as an assembly. On models equipped with original equipment OCS, remove seat cushion trim cover retainers and separate seat cushion pad and trim cover from seat cushion frame.
On models equipped with service part OCS, remove seat cushion trim cover retainers from seat cushion frame. On models equipped with original equipment OCS, remove OCS bladder pin-type retainers. Fold bladder out of way. Pry upward on pressure sensor retainer to release pressure sensor. On models equipped with service part OCS, fold seat cushion pad and bladder out of way. Pry upward on pressure sensor retainer to release pressure sensor.
On all models, remove front seat climate control retaining screws. See Figure . Separate climate control wire harness from seat cushion pan. Separate climate control duct and remove climate control assembly. Remove OCS retaining screws. See Figure . Separate pressure sensor. Separate OCS wire harness from seat cushion pan. Guide OCS component back through seat cushion pan and remove OCS assembly.
WARNING: Foreign objects between OCS components and seat cushion frame and support assembly may cause air bags to improperly deploy. Personal injury may result. Ensure OCS components, seat cushion frame and support assembly are free of any foreign objects during reassembly.

CAUTION: Improper routing of OCS components can cause binding or pinching of components. Damage to OCS components may result. Failure to route OCS components through correct seat cushion support opening can cause OCS component failure and air bag system malfunction. Ensure OCS components are properly routed during reassembly.

NOTE: When installing new OCS, a prepaid return postcard is included with new part. The serial number for the new part and Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) must be recorded on postcard, and sent to Ford Motor Co. Fill out the necessary information on the OCS traceability card and return it with the complete inoperative OCS unit. When returning the inoperative OCS unit, include: seat cushion foam pad, bladder, OCS ECU, pressure sensor (transducer), hose, electrical connectors and wire harness (service part OCS unit only).
