CLOCKSPRING Centering
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Ford Pickup, 2004 Ford F550 Super Duty, 2004 Ford F450 Super Duty, and 2004 Ford Excursion. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING:
Operating vehicle with improperly centered clockspring may damage clockspring, and in the event of collision, cause air bag deployment malfunction. Personal injury may result. If clockspring rotor has moved or if unsure of rotor position, perform clockspring centering procedure.
CAUTION:
Over-rotating clockspring rotor can damage clockspring. Air bag system malfunction may result. Internal ribbon wire acts as a stop, and if over-rotated, can be broken from its internal connection. When slight resistance is felt during rotation, internal ribbon wire is at end of travel.
While holding clockspring outer housing stationary, turn rotor clockwise until slight resistance is felt (end of travel). Turn clockspring rotor counterclockwise 2 1/4 turns. DO NOT allow clockspring to move from this position.
