All vehicles
- Remove the center instrument panel finish panel. For additional information, refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL - CENTER in this service information.
- Remove the instrument panel. For additional information, refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL in this service information.
- Remove the passenger air bag. For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM -- FUSION, MILAN & MKZ article.
- Remove the audio unit. For additional information, refer to INFORMATION & ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEMS -- FUSION, MILAN & MKZ article.
- Remove the Front Display Interface Module (FDIM), if equipped. For additional information, refer to INFORMATION & ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEMS -- FUSION, MILAN & MKZ article.
- Disconnect the Data Link Connector (DLC) from the lower LH instrument panel.
- Press the retainer clip toward the center of the connector and push the connector towards the back of the instrument panel.
- Remove the headlamp switch. For additional information, refer to

Fusion, Milan
- Through the headlamp switch opening, remove the LH duct support screw.
- Through the Instrument Cluster (IC) opening, remove the 2 instrument panel front screws.
- Remove the HVAC module, if equipped. For additional information, refer to CLIMATE CONTROL -- FUSION, MILAN & MKZ article.
- Through the audio unit opening, remove the instrument panel front screw.
MKZ
- Remove LH switch assembly in the following sequence.
- Press the 4 switch retainer clips toward the center of the switch and push the switch forward toward the front of the instrument panel upper section.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors and remove the switch assembly.
- Remove the RH register. For additional information, refer to CLIMATE CONTROL -- FUSION, MILAN & MKZ article.
- Through the LH and RH register openings, remove the 2 instrument panel front screws.
- Through the IC opening, remove the 2 instrument panel front screws.
- Through the audio unit opening, remove the 2 instrument panel front screws.
- Remove the in-vehicle temperature sensor. For additional information, refer to

article.
All vehicles
- Remove the 6 instrument panel rear screws.
- Remove the 3 wire harness screws from the rear of the instrument panel upper section and disconnect wire harness retainers as necessary.
- If equipped, disconnect the instrument panel speaker.
- Remove the in-vehicle cross beam from the instrument panel upper section.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Transfer parts from the instrument panel upper section as necessary.
NOTE:
To avoid damaging the in-vehicle cross beam or the instrument panel upper section, spread a suitable covering over the bench on which to place the instrument panel when removed from the vehicle.
NOTE:
Place the instrument panel on the bench upside-down.
NOTE:
Position the instrument panel upper section away from the in-vehicle cross beam to access the instrument panel speaker electrical connector.
NOTE:
To avoid damaging the instrument panel upper section, the aid of an assistant is required to carry out this step.
