Pinpoint Test Ab: Soft Or Excessive Brake Pedal Travel

  1. AB1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE ABS SELF-TEST 
    • Check for recorded ABS DTCs from the self-test.
    • Are any DTCs recorded? 
    • Yes  : REFER to DTC TABLES  in this service information.
    • No  : GO to AB2.
  2. AB2 CHECK THE BRAKE SYSTEM COMPONENTS FOR CORRECT INSTALLATION OR DAMAGE 
    • Inspect the brake system for the following concerns:
      • Check the brake pedal and bracket, brake master cylinder, brake calipers and fluid lines/hoses for correct installation.
      • Check the brake pedal and bracket, brake master cylinder, brake calipers and fluid lines/hoses for damage or leaks.
      • Check the flexible brake hoses for bulging with the brake pedal is pressed.
      • For brake pedal and master cylinder, refer to HYDRAULIC BRAKE SYSTEM ACTUATION article.
      • For brake booster, refer to POWER BRAKE ACTUATION -- BRAKE BOOSTER article.
    • Are the brake system components correctly installed and free from leaks or damage? 
    • Yes  : GO to AB3.
    • No  : REPAIR the identified concern. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. AB3 BLEED THE BRAKE SYSTEM 
    • Bleed the brake system including the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) bleeding procedure. Refer to BRAKE SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    • Yes  : GO to AB4.
    • No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by air in the brake system.
  4. AB4 CHECK BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER 
    • Carry out the Brake Master Cylinder - Bypass Condition Test in BRAKE SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article, Component Tests.
    • Did the master cylinder pass the component test?
