Pinpoint Test Z: The DRL Are Inoperative

  1. Z1 VERIFY THE DRL OPERATION 
    • Ignition ON.
    • Place the headlamp switch in the OFF position.
    • If equipped with an automatic transaxle, place the gear selector lever in any gear other than PARK (P).
    • If equipped with a manual transaxle, release the parking brake.
    • Do the DRL illuminate? 
    1. Yes  : The system is operating correctly. INFORM the customer of the conditions required for the DRL to operate correctly.
    2. No  : GO to Z2.
  2. Z2 CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE HEADLAMPS (VEHICLES WITH HALOGEN HEADLAMPS) OR FOG LAMPS (VEHICLES WITH HID HEADLAMPS) 
    • Place the headlamp switch in the HEADLAMPS ON position (and engage the fog lamp switch for vehicles with HID headlamps) and observe the headlamps/fog lamps.
    • Do the headlamps/fog lamps operate correctly? 
    1. Yes  : GO to Z3.
    2. No  : REFER to HEADLAMPS  or FOG LAMPS  in this service information.
  3. Z3 CHECK THE IGNITION SWITCH INPUT 
    • Place the headlamp switch in the OFF position.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: SJB DataLogger.
    • Monitor the SJB ignition switch PIDs (IGN_A_ECU, IGN_O_ECU, IGN_R_ECU, IGN_S_ECU) while cycling the ignition switch through all its positions.
    • Does the PID agree with the ignition switch positions? 
    1. Yes  : For vehicles with an automatic transaxle, GO to Z4. For vehicles with a manual transaxle, GO to  Z5.
    2. No  : REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article to diagnose the ignition switch input.
  4. Z4 CHECK THE TRANSAXLE GEAR INPUT 
    • Ignition ON.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: PCM DataLogger.
    • Monitor the PCM transmission gear status PID (TR) while placing the gear selector lever through all its positions.
    • Does the PID agree with the gear selection? 
    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES -- FUSION, MILAN & MKZ article. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : REFER to AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION - AISIN AW21 -- FUSION & MKZ article, AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION - 6F35 -- FUSION & MILAN article or AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION - ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (ECVT) - FUSION HYBRID, MILAN HYBRID & MKZ HYBRID article to diagnose the digital Transmission Range (TR) sensor input.
  5. Z5 CHECK THE BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR OPERATION 
    • Ignition ON.
    • Apply and release the parking brake while observing the brake warning indicator.
    • Does the brake warning indicator operate correctly? 
    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES -- FUSION, MILAN & MKZ article. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : REFER to INSTRUMENTATION, MESSAGE CENTER & WARNING CHIMES -- FUSION, MILAN & MKZ article to diagnose the brake warning indicator.
