DTC P0123: Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor A Circuit High

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2011 Mercury Milan, 2011 Lincoln MKZ, 2011 Ford Fusion, 2010 Mercury Milan, and 2010 Ford Fusion. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
P0123 - THROTTLE/PEDAL POSITION SENSOR A CIRCUIT HIGH

Description:  The electronic throttle control (ETC) throttle position (TP) sensor 1 circuit was flagged as a concern by the powertrain control module (PCM) indicating a high voltage. A TP1 PID reading greater than 4.75 volts with the ignition on, engine off or ignition on, engine running, indicates a concern is present.
Possible Causes:
  • ETC TP sensor harness shorted to VREF
  • ETC TP sensor harness shorted to PWR
  • Damaged TP sensor
  • VREF circuit shorted to TP sensor
Diagnostic Aids:  The TP1 signal is normally at a high voltage at closed throttle, and a lower voltage at wide open throttle (WOT) (opposite of TP2).
Application  Key On Engine Off  Key On Engine Running  Continuous Memory
All GO to PINPOINT TEST DV .
