Test Procedure

  1. TV1 KEY ON ENGINE OFF (KOEO) AND CONTINUOUS MEMORY DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) P1A05: CHECK FOR PCM DTCS 
    • Retrieve all continuous memory and on-demand self-test DTCs from the PCM.

    Are any engine speed related DTCs present? 

    Yes No
    DISREGARD the current diagnostic trouble code (DTC) at this time. DIAGNOSE the next DTC. GO to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) CHARTS AND DESCRIPTIONS . GO to  TV2.
  2. TV2 VERIFY THAT THE CONCERN IS PRESENT 
    NOTE: Clearing the transaxle control module (TCM) DTCs erases any TCM recorded freeze frame data. Make sure to record any TCM freeze frame information before proceeding any further. Refer to the scan tool instruction manual for freeze frame PID menu.
    • Clear and retrieve TCM continuous DTCs.

    Is DTC P1A05 present? 

    Yes No
    GO to  TV3. RETURN to SYMPTOM CHARTS for further direction.
  3. TV3 ATTEMPT TO START THE ENGINE 
    • Ignition ON, engine running.

    Does the engine start? 

    Yes No
    INSTALL a new transaxle assembly. Refer to the ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (ECVT) GO to  TV4.
  4. TV4 CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the PCM connectors.
    • Visually inspect for:
      • pushed out pins
      • corrosion
    • Connect all the PCM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Carry out the PCM self-test.
    • Verify the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes No
    INSTALL a new PCM.
    REFER to FLASH ELECTRICALLY ERASABLE PROGRAMMABLE READ ONLY MEMORY (EEPROM) , PROGRAMMING THE VID BLOCK FOR A REPLACEMENT PCM .
    The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
