Inspection and Verification

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 Lincoln Town Car. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. Visually inspect the following for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.
    VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

    Mechanical Electrical
    • Windshield washer hoses
    • Wiper linkage
    • Multi-function switch
    • Battery junction box (BJB) fuse 110 (30A)
    • Central junction box (CJB) fuse 7 (10A)
    • Circuitry
    • Windshield wiper motor
  3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  4. NOTE: The windshield wiper motor does not communicate on the network. The windshield wiper motor provides wiper on/off status directly to the lighting control module (LCM).
NOTE: Make sure to use the latest scan tool software release.
  5. If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the data link connector (DLC).
  6. NOTE: The vehicle communication module (VCM) LED prove out confirms power and ground from the DLC are provided to the VCM.
  7. If the scan tool does not communicate with the VCM:
    • check the VCM connection to the vehicle.
    • check the scan tool connection to the VCM.
    • refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article, No Power To The Scan Tool, to diagnose no communication with the scan tool.
  8. If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
    • verify the ignition key is in the ON position.
    • verify the scan tool operation with a known good vehicle.
    • refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article to diagnose no response from the LCM.
  9. Preform the network test.
    • If the scan tool responds with no communication from one or more modules, refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article.
    • If the network test passes, retrieve and record the continuous memory DTCs.
  10. Clear the continuous DTCs and Preform the self-test diagnostics for the LCM.
  11. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, refer to Lighting Control Module (LCM) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE Index . For all other DTCs, refer to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article.
  12. If not DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, go to Symptom Chart .
LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE (LCM) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX

DTC Description Source Action
B1449 Wiper Park Sense Circuit Short to Ground Lighting Control Module (LCM) DISCONNECT LCM C2145D and windshield wiper motor C125. CHECK circuit 28 (BK/PK) for a short to ground. MEASURE the resistance between LCM C2145D-14, circuit 28 (BK/PK), harness side and ground. REPAIR the short to ground as needed. If circuit is OK, INSTALL a new LCM. CLEAR the DTC. Preform the self-test.
All other DTCs - LCM REFER to the Master DTC Index in MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article.
