PINPOINT TEST J: DTC B2292 - Restraint System - Seatbelt Pretensioner Fault
- J1 CHECK FOR ON-DEMAND AND CONTINUOUS DTCs
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Self Test/ RCM/ Retrieve and Record On-Demand and Continuous Memory DTCs
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: DataLogger/ RCM/ View and Record All B2292 Fault PIDs
- Refer to PID list in Normal Operation to view B2292 fault PIDs.
- Do any on-demand DTC B2292 fault PIDs indicate a fault?
- YES : This is a hard fault. The fault condition is still present. This fault cannot be cleared until it is corrected and the DTC is no longer retrieved during the on-demand self test. Go to J2.
- NO : This is an intermittent fault when present as a continuous memory DTC only (DTC not retrieved on demand). The fault condition is not present at this time. Go to J18.
- J2 CHECK THE PRETENSIONER
- Key in OFF position.
- Depower the SRS. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering .
- Disconnect: The affected Safety Belt Retractor Pretensioner C323 (Driver) or C303 (Passenger)
- Connect: Restraint System Diagnostic Tool 418-F088 to The Affected Safety Belt Retractor Pretensioner C323 (Driver) or C303 (Passenger)
- Repower the SRS. Do not prove out the SRS at this time. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering .
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Self Test/ RCM/ Retrieve and Record On-Demand and Continuous Memory DTCs
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: DataLogger/ RCM/ View and Record All B2292 Fault PIDs
- Refer to PID list in Normal Operation to view B2292 fault PIDs.
- Do any on-demand DTC B2292 fault PIDs indicate a fault?
- YES
: This is a hard fault. The fault condition is still present. This fault cannot be cleared until it is corrected and the DTC is no longer retrieved during the on-demand self test.
Using the fault PIDs recorded in Step J1, go to the appropriate pinpoint test step.
For 2292_31_OD (Pretensioner Circuit Resistance Low, Front Driver Side) (LFC 9-11), go to J3.
For 2292_30_OD (Pretensioner Circuit Open, Front Driver Side) (LFC 3-3), go to J4.
For 2292_29_OD (Pretensioner Circuit Short to Battery, Front Driver Side) (LFC 9-7), go to J6.
For 2292_28_OD (Pretensioner Circuit Short to Ground, Front Driver Side) (LFC 9-3), go to J8.
For 2292_24_OD (Pretensioner Circuit Short to Ground, Front Passenger Side) (LFC 9-12), go to J10.
For 2292_26_OD (Pretensioner Circuit Open, Front Passenger Side) (LFC 3-4), go to J11.
For 2292_25_OD (Pretensioner Circuit Short to Battery, Front Passenger Side) (LFC 9-8), go to J13.
For 2292_24_OD (Pretensioner Circuit Short to Ground, Front Passenger Side) (LFC 9-4), go to J15.
- NO : INSTALL a new driver or passenger safety belt retractor pretensioner. REFER to SAFETY BELT SYSTEM article. Go to J19.
- J3 CHECK FOR A SHORT BETWEEN DRIVER SAFETY BELT RETRACTOR PRETENSIONER CIRCUITS 1079 (LG/RD) AND 1080 (LG/BK)
- Key in OFF position.
- Depower the SRS. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering .
- Disconnect: Restraint System Diagnostic Tool 418-F088
- Disconnect: RCM C310a and C310b
- Measure the resistance between RCM C310b-17, circuit 1079 (LG/RD), and C310b-18, circuit 1080 (LG/BK), harness side.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- J4 CHECK CIRCUIT 1079 (LG/RD) FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Depower the SRS. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering .
- Disconnect: Restraint System Diagnostic Tool 418-F088
- Disconnect: RCM C310a and C310b
- Measure the resistance between RCM C310b-17, circuit 1079 (LG/RD), harness side and driver safety belt retractor pretensioner C323-1, circuit 1079 (LG/RD), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm?
- J5 CHECK CIRCUIT 1080 (LG/BK) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between RCM C310b-18, circuit 1080 (LG/BK), harness side and driver safety belt retractor pretensioner C323-3, circuit 1080 (LG/BK), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm?
- J6 CHECK CIRCUIT 1079 (LG/RD) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Key in OFF position.
- Depower the SRS. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering .
- Disconnect: Restraint System Diagnostic Tool 418-F088
- Disconnect: RCM C310a and C310b
- Repower the SRS. Do not prove out the SRS at this time. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering .
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between driver safety belt retractor pretensioner C323-1, circuit 1079 (LG/RD), harness side and ground.
- Is any voltage present?
- J7 CHECK CIRCUIT 1080 (LG/BK) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Measure the voltage between driver safety belt retractor pretensioner C323-3, circuit 1080 (LG/BK), harness side and ground.
- Is any voltage present?
- J8 CHECK CIRCUIT 1079 (LG/RD) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Key in OFF position.
- Depower the SRS. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering .
- Disconnect: Restraint System Diagnostic Tool 418-F088
- Disconnect: RCM C310a and C310b
- Measure the resistance between RCM C310b-17, circuit 1079 (LG/RD), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- J9 CHECK CIRCUIT 1080 (LG/BK) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between RCM C310b-18, circuit 1080 (LG/BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- J10 CHECK FOR A SHORT BETWEEN PASSENGER SAFETY BELT RETRACTOR PRETENSIONER CIRCUITS 1081 (YE/RD) AND 1082 (YE/BK)
- Key in OFF position.
- Depower the SRS. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering .
- Disconnect: Restraint System Diagnostic Tool 418-F088
- Disconnect: RCM C310a and C310b
- Measure the resistance between RCM C310b-36, circuit 1082 (YE/BK), and C310b-35, circuit 1081 (YE/RD), harness side.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- J11 CHECK CIRCUIT 1081 (YE/RD) FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Depower the SRS. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering .
- Disconnect: Restraint System Diagnostic Tool 418-F088
- Disconnect: RCM C310a and C310b
- Measure the resistance between RCM C310b-35, circuit 1081 (YE/RD), harness side and passenger safety belt retractor pretensioner C303-1, circuit 1081 (YE/RD), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm?
- J12 CHECK CIRCUIT 1082 (YE/BK) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between RCM C310b-36, circuit 1082 (YE/BK), harness side and passenger safety belt retractor pretensioner C303-3, circuit 1082 (YE/BK), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm?
- J13 CHECK CIRCUIT 1081 (YE/RD) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Key in OFF position.
- Depower the SRS. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering .
- Disconnect: Restraint System Diagnostic Tool 418-F088
- Disconnect: RCM C310a and C310b
- Repower the SRS. Do not prove out the SRS at this time. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering .
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between passenger safety belt retractor pretensioner C303-1, circuit 1081 (YE/RD), harness side and ground.
- Is any voltage present?
- J14 CHECK CIRCUIT 1082 (YE/BK) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Measure the voltage between passenger safety belt retractor pretensioner C303-3, circuit 1082 (YE/BK), harness side and ground.
- Is any voltage present?
- J15 CHECK CIRCUIT 1081 (YE/RD) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Restraint System Diagnostic Tool 418-F088
- Disconnect: RCM C310a and C310b
- Measure the resistance between RCM C310b-35, circuit 1081 (YE/RD), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- J16 CHECK CIRCUIT 1082 (YE/BK) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between RCM C310b-36, circuit 1082 (YE/BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- J17 CONFIRM THE RCM FAULT NOTE: Make sure all restraint system diagnostic tools, sensor electrical connectors and the RCM electrical connectors are connected before carrying out the self test. If not, erroneous DTCs will be recorded.
- Key in OFF position.
- Depower the SRS. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering .
- Connect: Restraint System Diagnostic Tool 418-F088 to The Affected Safety Belt Retractor Pretensioner C323 (Driver) or C303 (Passenger)
- Connect: RCM C310a and C310b
- Repower the SRS. Do not prove out the SRS at this time. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering .
- Key in ON position.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Self Test/ RCM/ Retrieve and Record On-Demand and Continuous Memory DTCs
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: DataLogger/ RCM/ View and Record All B2292 Fault PIDs
- Refer to PID list in Normal Operation to view B2292 fault PIDs.
- Do any on-demand DTC B2292 fault PIDs indicate a fault?
- YES : INSTALL a new RCM. REFER to Restraints Control Module (RCM) . Go to J19.
- NO : In the process of diagnosing the fault, the fault condition has become intermittent. CHECK for causes of the intermittent fault in the areas previously worked in, particularly the pins and terminals of electrical connectors that were disconnected. ATTEMPT to recreate the hard fault by flexing the wire harness and cycling the ignition key frequently. Do not install any new SRS components at this time. SRS components should only be installed when directed to do so in the pinpoint test. REPAIR any intermittent wiring, terminal or connector concerns found. Go to J19.
- J18 CHECK FOR AN INTERMITTENT FAULT
- Key in OFF position.
- Depower the SRS. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering .
- Disconnect: The affected Safety Belt Retractor Pretensioner C323 (Driver) or C303 (Passenger)
- Connect: Restraint System Diagnostic Tool 418-F088 to The Affected Safety Belt Retractor Pretensioner C323 (Driver) or C303 (Passenger)
- Repower the SRS. Do not prove out the SRS at this time. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering .
- Key in ON position.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Self Test/ RCM/ Retrieve and Record On-Demand and Continuous Memory DTCs
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: DataLogger/ RCM/ View and Record All B2292 Fault PIDs
- Refer to PID list in Normal Operation to view B2292 fault PIDs.
- Do any on-demand DTC B2292 fault PIDs indicate a fault?
- YES
: This is a hard fault. The fault condition is now present. This fault cannot be cleared until it is corrected and the DTC is no longer retrieved during the on-demand self test. CHECK for causes of the intermittent fault at or near the affected safety belt retractor pretensioner electrical connector. REPAIR any intermittent wiring, terminal or connector concern found.
If an intermittent concern was found and repaired, go to J19.
If an intermittent concern was not found and repaired, USE the fault PIDs recorded and Go to the appropriate pinpoint test step.
For 2292_31_OD (Pretensioner Circuit Resistance Low, Front Driver Side) (LFC 9-11), go to J3.
For 2292_30_OD (Pretensioner Circuit Open, Front Driver Side) (LFC 3-3), go to J4.
For 2292_29_OD (Pretensioner Circuit Short to Battery, Front Driver Side) (LFC 9-7), go to J6.
For 2292_28_OD (Pretensioner Circuit Short to Ground, Front Driver Side) (LFC 9-3), go to J8.
For 2292_24_OD (Pretensioner Circuit Short to Ground, Front Passenger Side) (LFC 9-12), go to J10.
For 2292_26_OD (Pretensioner Circuit Open, Front Passenger Side) (LFC 3-4), go to J11.
For 2292_25_OD (Pretensioner Circuit Short to Battery, Front Passenger Side) (LFC 9-8), go to J13.
For 2292_24_OD (Pretensioner Circuit Short to Ground, Front Passenger Side) (LFC 9-4), go to J15.
- NO : CHECK for causes of the intermittent fault. ATTEMPT to recreate the hard fault by flexing the wire harness and cycling the ignition key frequently. ACTIVATE other systems in the same wire harness. Do not install any new SRS components at this time. SRS components should only be installed when directed to do so in the pinpoint test. REPAIR any intermittent wiring, terminal or connector concerns found. Go to J19.
- J19 CHECK FOR ADDITIONAL SRS DTCs
- Key in OFF position.WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.
- Reconnect all SRS components (if previously disconnected).
- If previously directed to depower the SRS, repower the SRS. Do not prove out the SRS at this time. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering .
- Key in ON position.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Self Test/ RCM/ Retrieve and Record On-Demand and Continuous Memory DTCs
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Clear all RCM Continuous Memory DTCs
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Self Test/RCM
- Are any RCM DTCs retrieved indicating a fault?
- YES : Do not clear any DTCs until all DTCs have been resolved. Go to the SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX for pinpoint test direction.
- NO : PROVE OUT the SRS. REPAIR is complete. RETURN the vehicle to the customer.
- Key in OFF position.
