Test A: Engine Does Not Crank Or Relay Clicks

- Check Function Of The Starter Relay
Connect a remote starter switch between the battery positive terminal at the starter relay and the starter relay "S" terminal. See Fig 1 . Press the remote starter switch button. Did the starter crank the engine? If yes, go to step 5 . If no, if the relay did not close, go to next step. If the relay closed, go to step 3 . - Check The Starter Relay Ground
Measure the resistance between the starter relay case and a clean chassis ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, install a new starter relay. Test the system for normal operation. If no, clean the ground connection between the starter relay case and the body ground. Test the system for normal operation. - Check Starter Solenoid Function
Connect a remote starter switch between the battery positive terminal at the starter motor and the starter motor "S" terminal. See Fig 1 . Press the remote starter switch button. Did the starter crank the engine? If yes, repair open in the Red wire between the starter relay and starter solenoid. Test the system for normal operation. If no, go to next step. - Check The Starter Solenoid
Label and disconnect the wiring at the starter solenoid. Test the starter solenoid. See STARTER SOLENOID under COMPONENT TESTS. Did the solenoid pass the test? If yes, install a new starter motor. Test the system for normal operation. If no, install a new starter solenoid. Test the system for normal operation. - Check Tan/Red Wire For An Open - Battery Feed To The DTR Sensor
Disconnect Digital Transmission Range (DTR) Sensor connector. Turn ignition switch to START position. Measure the voltage between the DTR sensor connector terminal No. 12 (Tan/Red wire) and a clean chassis ground. See Fig 2 . Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 7 . - Check For Continuity At The DTR Sensor
Connect DTR Sensor connector. Turn ignition to START position. Measure the voltage between the DTR sensor connector terminal No. 12 (Red/Light Blue wire) a clean chassis ground. See Fig 2 . Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? If yes, repair open in Red/Light Blue wire between the DTR sensor and the starter relay. Test the system for normal operation. If no, check the DTR sensor adjustment. See DIGITAL TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR under ADJUSTMENTS. If adjustment is okay, replace DTR sensor. Test the system for normal operation. - CHECK Tan/Red Wire FOR AN OPEN
Disconnect DTR sensor connector. Measure the resistance at the DTR sensor connector terminal No. 12 (Tan/Red wire) and fuse No. 34 (10-amp) in CJB. See Fig 2 . Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, repair power feed between fuse No. 23 (60-amp) in BJB and fuse No. 34 (10-amp) in CJB. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If no, repair open in Tan/Red wire. Test the system for normal operation.
