Removal and Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 Mercury Mariner and 2010 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove the 4 rear bumper cover center screws.
  2. Remove the 2 rear splash shields.
    • Remove the 4 splash shield pin-type retainers (2 each side).
    • Remove the 4 splash shield bolts (2 each side).
    • To install, tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
  3. Remove the 2 rear bumper cover upper screws (1 each side).
    • To install, tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
  4. Remove the 2 liftgate alignment bumper bolts and the 2 liftgate alignment bumpers.
    • To install, tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).
  5. If equipped, disconnect the parking aid system or trailer tow electrical connector.
  6. Remove the rear bumper cover.
  7. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • When installing, position the rear bumper cover into the bumper slides.
    • Transfer all necessary components.
