Lower Control Arm - Torsion Bar Suspension: Installation

  1. Position the front suspension lower arm to the front suspension crossmember. Install the pivot bolts and nuts and tighten until snug. Inspect lower ball joints and boots for damage.
  2. Position the lower ball joint into the spindle. Install the NEW castellated nut.
  3. On both control arms, install NEW cotter pin toward engine compartment. Ensure head of cotter pin is facing tire. Ensure fingers of cotter pins are bent at a right angle to secure.
  4. Install the front shock absorber-to-front suspension lower arm nuts. Install the stabilizer link bushing, washer, and nut. Install the torsion bar. SeeTORSION BAR  .
    NOTE: Whenever the torsion bar or torsion bar adjuster is removed, the vehicle ride height must be checked. See RIDE HEIGHT  under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS.
  5. Tighten the front suspension lower arm nuts. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Tighten lug nuts to specification. SeeTORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Before driving vehicle, pump brake pedal several times to restore normal pedal position. Check ride height. See RIDE HEIGHT  under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS. Check wheel alignment.
