Pinpoint Test B: The Wipers Are Inoperative - Rear Window

NOTE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) from the Flex Probe Kit when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
  1. B1 CHECK CIRCUITS SBP19 (BU/RD) AND CBP43 (GY) FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Rear Window Wiper Motor C476.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure the voltage between ground and rear window wiper motor:
      • C476-4, circuit SBP19 (BU/RD), harness side.
      • C476-8, circuit CBP43 (GY), harness side.

    • Are the voltages greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes:  GO to B2  .
    • No:  VERIFY Smart Junction Box (SJB) fuse 19 (25A) and SJB  fuse 43 (10A) are OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. TEST the system for normal operation.

      If not OK, REFER to the appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

  2. B2 CHECK CIRCUIT GD183 (BK/WH) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Measure the resistance between rear window wiper C476-1, circuit GD183 (BK/WH), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes:  GO to B3  .
    • No:  REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. B3 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C202.
    • Carry out the Multifunction Switch Component Test.

      Refer to COMPONENT TESTING (Except Hybrid), COMPONENT TESTING (Hybrid) for component testing.

    • Did the multifunction switch pass the component test? 
  4. B4 CHECK CIRCUIT GD114 (BK/BU) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure the resistance between multifunction switch C202-15, circuit GD114 (BK/BU), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes:  GO to B5  .
    • No:  REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. B5 CHECK CIRCUIT CRW21 (YE/VT) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure the resistance between multifunction switch C202-13, circuit CRW21 (YE/VT), harness side and rear window wiper C476-7, circuit CRW21 (YE/VT), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes:  GO to B6  .
    • No:  REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. B6 CHECK FOR CORRECT WIPER MOTOR OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all wiper motor connectors.
    • Check for:
      • liftgate glass open.
      • corrosion.
      • pushed-out pins.
    • Connect all wiper motor connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    • Yes:  INSTALL a new rear window wiper motor. REFER to WIPER MOTOR - REAR WINDOW .
    • No:  The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
