Steering Knuckle: Installation

  1. Apply a thin coat of Ford High Temperature 4x4 Front Axle and Wheel Bearing Grease (E8TZ-19590-A) to the bore of the knuckle
  2. Using the Wheel Knuckle Oil Seal Installers (205-400) and (205-399), install the main seal.
    3. CAUTION: Failure to lubricate the main seal can cause premature wear of the seal, resulting in damage to the axle shaft and steering knuckle.
  3. Apply 3 grams of Ford High Temperature 4x4 Front Axle and Wheel Bearing Grease to the sealing faces of the main seal.
  4. Position steering knuckle onto upper and lower ball joints. Install upper ball joint-to-steering knuckle pinch bolt and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Position axle shaft into steering knuckle.
  5. Install lower ball joint nut, and tighten to specification. Install NEW cotter pin toward engine compartment. Ensure head of cotter pin is facing tire. Ensure fingers of cotter pin are bent at a right angle to secure. Connect tie rod end-to-steering knuckle. Install tie rod end-to-steering knuckle nut, and tighten to specification.
