Pinpoint Test S: DTC C101A:1C, 62, 64 Or C101B:1C

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 Mercury Mariner and 2010 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Use the Flex Probe Kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multi-meter probes.
  1. S1 VERIFY ALL WIRING CONNECTIONS 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Vacuum Sensor C1603.
    • Disconnect: ABS Module C155.
    • Using a good light source, inspect each connector terminal for any corrosion.
    • Inspect both connectors for any pushed-out pins.

      Refer to appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article for schematic and connector information.

    • Using a suitable mating terminal, check each female terminal for deformed or enlarged contacts by comparing the mating terminal's fit between each of the following pins:
      • C155-6
      • C155-25
      • C155-28
      • C155-30

    • Using the same procedure as above, compare the fit of each of the following terminals:
      • C1603-1
      • C1603-2
      • C1603-3
      • C1603-4

    • Refer to appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article for schematic and connector information.
    • Is each terminal free of corrosion, pushed-out pins or spread terminals? 
    1. Yes:  GO to S2  .
    2. No:  REPAIR the affected terminal(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  2. S2 CHECK THE DTCs FROM THE ABS MODULE SELF-TEST 
    • Review the DTCs recorded during Inspection and Verification.
    • Are both DTCs C101A:1C and C101B:1C present? 
    1. Yes:  GO to  S9.
    2. No:  If DTC C101A:1C is present without DTC C101B:1C, GO to S3  .

      If DTC C101B:1C is present without DTC C101A:1C, GO to  S6.

      If DTC C101A:64 is present, GO to  S13.

      If DTC C101A:62 is present, GO to  S11.

      For all other DTCs, GO to the ABS MODULE DTC CHART .

  3. S3 CHECK THE SENSOR SIGNAL 1 RETURN CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Measure the resistance between vacuum sensor C1603-4, circuit VCA38 (BN/VT), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    1. Yes:  GO to S4  .
    2. No:  REPAIR circuit VCA38 (BN/VT). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  4. S4 CHECK THE SENSOR SIGNAL 1 RETURN CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure the voltage between vacuum sensor C1603-4, circuit VCA38 (BN/VT), harness side and ground.

    • Is any voltage present? 
    1. Yes:  REPAIR circuit VCA38 (BN/VT). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    2. No:  GO to S5  .
  5. S5 CHECK THE SENSOR SIGNAL 1 RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Measure the resistance between vacuum sensor C1603-4, circuit VCA38 (BN/VT), harness side and ABS module C155-30, circuit VCA38 (BN/VT), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. Yes:  GO to  S9.
    2. No:  REPAIR circuit VCA38 (BN/VT). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  6. S6 CHECK THE SENSOR SIGNAL 2 RETURN CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Measure the resistance between vacuum sensor C1603-1, circuit VCA39 (BU/GN), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    1. Yes:  GO to S7  .
    2. No:  REPAIR circuit VCA39 (BU/GN). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  7. S7 CHECK THE SENSOR SIGNAL 2 RETURN CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure the voltage between vacuum sensor C1603-1, circuit VCA39 (BU/GN), harness side and ground.

    • Is any voltage present? 
    1. Yes:  REPAIR circuit VCA39 (BU/GN). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    2. No:  GO to S8  .
  8. S8 CHECK THE SENSOR SIGNAL 2 RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Measure the resistance between vacuum sensor C1603-1, circuit VCA39 (BU/GN), harness side and ABS module C155-25, circuit VCA39 (BU/GN), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. Yes:  GO to S9  .
    2. No:  REPAIR circuit VCA39 (BU/GN). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  9. S9 CHECK THE SENSOR VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Measure the resistance between vacuum sensor C1603-3, circuit LCA37 (YE/OG), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    1. Yes:  GO to S10  .
    2. No:  REPAIR circuit LCA37 (YE/OG). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  10. S10 CHECK THE SENSOR VOLTAGE SUPPLY AND GROUND CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure the voltage between ground and:
      • C1603-3, circuit LCA37 (YE/OG), harness side.
      • C1603-2, circuit RCA37 (WH/BU), harness side.

    • Is any voltage present? 
    1. Yes:  REPAIR the affected circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    2. No:  GO to S11  .
  11. S11 CHECK THE SENSOR VOLTAGE SUPPLY AND GROUND CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Measure the resistance between ABS module C155, harness side and vacuum sensor C1603, harness side as indicated in the following chart:
      TERMINAL RESISTANCE REFERENCE

      ABS Module Circuit Vacuum Sensor
      C155-6 LCA37 (YE/OG) C1603-3
      C155-28 RCA37 (WH/BU) C1603-2

    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? 
    1. Yes:  If only DTC C101A:62 is present, GO to S12  .

      For all other DTCs, GO to  S13.

    2. No:  REPAIR the affected circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  12. S12 CHECK BOTH SENSOR SIGNAL RETURN CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure the resistance between ABS module C155, harness side and vacuum sensor C1603, harness side as indicated in the following chart:
      TERMINAL RESISTANCE REFERENCE

      ABS Module Circuit Vacuum Sensor
      C155-30 VCA38 (BN/VT) C1603-4
      C155-25 VCA39 (BU/GN) C1603-1

    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? 
    1. Yes:  GO to S13  .
    2. No:  REPAIR the affected circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  13. S13 CHECK BOTH SENSOR SIGNAL RETURN CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TOGETHER 
    • Measure the resistance between vacuum sensor C1603-1, circuit VCA39 (BU/GN), harness side and ABS module C1603-4, circuit VCA38 (BN/VT), harness side.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    1. Yes:  GO to S14  .
    2. No:  REPAIR the affected circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  14. S14 CHECK ABS MODULE OUTPUT 
    • Connect: ABS Module C155.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure the voltage between vacuum sensor C1603-3, circuit LCA37 (YE/OG) and ground.

    • Is the voltage between 4.7 and 5.1 volts? 
    1. Yes:  INSTALL a new vacuum sensor. REFER to POWER BRAKE ACTUATION . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    2. No:  INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE . REPEAT the self-test.
