Test E: Warning Indicator Is Off With Ignition On

  1. Check Charging System Warning Indicator

    Turn ignition off. Disconnect generator 3-pin harness connector. Connect a fused (15-amp) jumper wire between ground and generator connector terminal No. 1 (Light Green/Red wire). See Figure or Figure . Turn ignition on. Is the charging system warning indicator illuminated? If yes, for 2.3L engine, install a new generator. See GENERATOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. For 3.0L engine or 4.0L engine, install a new voltage regulator. See VOLTAGE REGULATOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Test the system for normal operation. If no, see appropriate ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
