Removal and Installation

NOTE: When repairing the power steering system, care should be taken to prevent the entry of foreign material or failure of the power steering components may result.
  1. Remove the power steering fluid reservoir. For additional information, refer to Removal and Installation .
  2. Remove the power steering pump belt. For additional information, refer to REMOVAL .
  3. Disconnect the Power Steering Pressure (PSP) switch electrical connector.
  4. If equipped, detach the engine block heater electrical harness from the power steering pressure line.
  5. Remove the pressure line-to-power steering pump banjo bolt and disconnect the line from the power steering pump.
    • Discard the bolt and 2 seals.
    • To install, tighten the new bolt to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
  6. Remove the 3 bolts and the power steering pump.
    • To install, tighten to 24 Nm (18 lb-ft).
  7. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    NOTE: A new banjo bolt and new seals must be installed any time the power steering pressure line is disconnected from the power steering pump or a fluid leak may occur.
  8. Fill the power steering system. For additional information, refer to POWER STEERING SYSTEM FILLING .
