Disassembly (Inner Joint)

- Remove the axle shaft from the vehicle. See AXLE SHAFTS under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Remove the boot clamps. See Figure . Slide the inner axle shaft boot off the inner CV joint housing. See Figure .
- Separate the CV joint from the CV joint housing. See Figure . Index-mark the shaft and the inner CV joint for correct alignment during assembly. See Figure . Remove the snap ring. See Figure . Remove the CV joint. See Figure .
- Remove the inner CV boot from the shaft assembly.
- Remove the front wheel excluder seal, if necessary by tapping uniformly around the seal to separate it from the joint. See Figure . Discard the seal.
- Remove the outer boot clamps. Remove the outboard boot. Check the grease for contamination. See Figure . If the grease is contaminated, clean and inspect the joint for wear. Install a new outer CV joint and interconnecting shaft assembly if worn/damaged.
CAUTION:
Do not damage the boot.

The next 2 steps are for replacing the outboard CV joint boot.
