DTC B1D23: Overheat Sensor: Action

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 Mercury Milan, 2010 Lincoln MKZ, and 2010 Ford Fusion. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

DIAGNOSE any other power steering control module (PSCM) DTCs before diagnosing DTC B1D23:68. If no other DTCs are present, INSPECT the electronic power assist steering (EPAS) gear heat shield.

INSTALL new as necessary. ADVISE the customer that high ambient temperatures and/or heavy loads on the EPAS system will cause this DTC to set, resulting in higher than usual steering effort. A heavy load is defined as multiple parking lot maneuvers over a short duration of time with low tire pressure or towing for long distances followed by multiple parking maneuvers.
