Engine Front Cover: Removal

With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING article.
Remove the radiator. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING article.
Remove the RH and LH valve covers. For additional information, refer to Valve Cover - LH and Valve Cover - RH .

NOTE: Accessory drive belt not shown for clarity.

Loosen the 4 coolant pump pulley bolts.

Rotate the tensioner clockwise and remove the accessory drive belt.

Remove the 4 bolts and the coolant pump pulley.

Remove the 3 bolts and position the power steering pump aside.

Disconnect the wiring harness from the bracket.

Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.

Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.

Remove the nut, disconnect the tubes and remove the bracket.

Remove the 3 bolts and position the A/C compressor aside.

Remove the bolt and the CKP sensor.
- Discard the O-ring seal.

Remove the drain plug and drain the engine oil.
Disconnect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor electrical connector.

Remove the bolt and the CMP sensor.
- Discard the O-ring seal.

Remove the 2 nuts and the radio frequency interference capacitors.

Remove the bolt and the accessory drive belt idler pulley.

CAUTION: This bolt is torque-to-yield and cannot be reused. Failure to follow these instructions may result in engine damage.

Using the special tool, remove the bolt and washer and discard the bolt.

Using the special tool, remove the crankshaft pulley.

Using the special tool, remove and discard the crankshaft front seal.

Remove the 4 front oil pan bolts.

Remove the bolts.

CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to clean sealing surfaces.

Remove the engine front cover from the front cover to cylinder block dowel.
- Discard the engine front cover gasket.
- Clean the mating surfaces with silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging.
- Inspect the mating surfaces.
