Pinpoint Test G: All The STOPLAMP Are Inoperative

NOTE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
  1. G1 CHECK CIRCUIT 10 (LG/RD) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Stoplamp Switch C278

    • Measure the voltage between the stoplamp switch C278-2, circuit 10 (LG/RD), harness side and ground.
    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. YES  : Go to  G2.
    2. NO  : VERIFY the CJB fuse 11 (15A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  2. G2 CHECK THE STOPLAMP SWITCH

    • Connect a fused (10A) jumper wire between the stoplamp switch C278-2, circuit 10 (LG/RD), harness side and the stoplamp switch C278-1, circuit 569 (DG), harness side.
    • Do the stoplamp illuminate? 
    1. YES  : REMOVE the jumper wire. INSTALL a new stoplamp switch. REFER to Stoplamp Switch . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : LEAVE the jumper wire connected. Go to  G3.
  3. G3 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE CJB FUSE 39 (10A) 
    NOTE: Make sure the CJB fuse 30 (15A) is good before continuing diagnostics.

    • Measure the voltage between the CJB fuse 39 (10A), input side and ground.
    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. YES  :

      For cutaway or stripped chassis vehicles, VERIFY the CJB fuse 39 (10A) is OK. If OK, LEAVE the jumper wire connected. Go to  G4.

      For all other vehicles, VERIFY the CJB fuse 39 (10A) is OK. If OK, REMOVE the jumper wire. REPAIR circuit 511 (LG) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.

    2. NO  : REMOVE the jumper wire. REPAIR circuit 569 (DG) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. G4 CHECK CIRCUIT 511 (LG) OR CIRCUIT 810 (LG) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C202a

    • Measure the voltage between the multifunction switch C202a-4, circuit 511 (LG) (all except stripped chassis) or circuit 810 (LG) (stripped chassis), harness side and ground.
    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. YES  : For cutaway or stripped chassis vehicles, REMOVE the jumper wire. INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article. TEST the system for normal operation.

      For non-cutaway vehicles, go to  G5.

    2. NO  : REMOVE the jumper wire. REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. G5 BYPASS THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH

    • Connect a fused (5A) jumper wire between the multifunction switch C202a-4, circuit 511 (LG), harness side and the multifunction switch C202a-5, circuit 5 (OG/LB), harness side.
    • Does the RH rear stoplamp illuminate? 
    1. YES  : REMOVE the jumper wires. INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : REMOVE the jumper wires. REPAIR circuit 57 (BK) for an open to the rear lamps. TEST the system for normal operation.
