Econoline, Escape, Expedition, Navigator & Villager
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 31 other vehicles, including the 2001 Mercury Villager, 2001 Mercury Mountaineer, 2001 Lincoln Navigator, 2001 Ford Windstar, and 2001 Ford Ranger. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Before adjusting alignment, check riding height. Check riding height with vehicle on level floor, tires properly inflated and fuel tanks full. Bounce vehicle several times and allow suspension to settle. Visually inspect vehicle for signs of abnormal height from front to rear or side to side. Check passenger compartment or vehicle bed for extra heavy items, and remove if present.
On Econoline and Villager, ride height is measured from front (dimension "A") and rear (dimension "B") fender lip openings to ground. See Fig 1. On Expedition and Navigator, rear ride height is measured between rear suspension travel stop bracket and top of axle housing. Ride height should be within specification. See RIDE HEIGHT SPECIFICATIONS (ECONOLINE, ESCAPE, EXPEDITION, NAVIGATOR & VILLAGER) table. If ride height is not as specified, check, repair or replace suspension components as necessary. On Econoline, rear side lean can be adjusted by installing shim. See ADJUSTMENTS .
