Valve Cover: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Mercury Mariner and 2008 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
    CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths.
  1. Clean and inspect the sealing surfaces.
    2. NOTE: Clean and inspect the gasket. Install a new gasket, if necessary.
  2. Install the valve cover, gasket and retainers.
    • Tighten in the sequence shown to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

  3. Position the wiring harness and attach all of the wiring harness retainers to the valve cover studs.
  4. Install the accelerator control cable brackets and nuts.
    • Tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).
  5. Connect the radio capacitor electrical connector.
  6. Connect the CHT sensor electrical connector.
  7. Connect the fuel rail pressure and temperature sensor electrical connector.
  8. Connect the CMP sensor electrical connector.
  9. Connect the crankcase vent hose.
  10. Install the ignition coil-on-plugs. For additional information, refer to ENGINE IGNITION - 2.3L article.
