Pinpoint Test Ar: The Stop Safely Now Warning Is Inoperative/Always On

  1. AR1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM BOTH THE CONTINUOUS AND ON-DEMAND PCM SELF-TESTS 
    • Check for recorded PCM DTCs from the continuous and on-demand self-tests.
    • Are any PCM DTCs recorded? 
    1. YES  : REFER to the Introduction - Gasoline Engines article.
    2. NO  : Go to  AR2.
  2. AR2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM BOTH THE CONTINUOUS AND ON-DEMAND TCM SELF-TESTS 
    • Check for recorded TCM DTCs from the continuous and on-demand self-tests.
    • Are any TCM DTCs recorded? 
    1. YES  : REFER to AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION - CD4E article.
    2. NO  : Go to  AR3.
  3. AR3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM BOTH THE CONTINUOUS AND ON-DEMAND TBCM SELF-TESTS 
    • Check for recorded TBCM DTCs from the continuous and on-demand self-tests.
    • Are any TBCM DTCs recorded? 
    1. YES  : REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article.
    2. NO  : Go to  AR4.
  4. AR4 CONFIRM THE STOP SAFELY NOW WARNING OPERATION 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Observe the STOP SAFELY NOW warning operation.
    • Is the STOP SAFELY NOW warning always displayed? 
    1. YES  : Go to  AR5.
    2. NO  : Go to  AR6.
  5. AR5 VERIFY THE OPERATION OF THE HAZARD WARNING INDICATOR 
    NOTE: Both the hazard warning indicator and the STOP SAFELY NOW warning are displayed when a fault condition is detected.
    • Observe the hazard warning indicator operation.
    • Is the hazard warning indicator illuminated? 
    1. YES  : Go to Pinpoint Test AC .
    2. NO  : Go to  AR7.
  6. AR6 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM BOTH THE CONTINUOUS AND ON-DEMAND INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (IC) SELF-TESTS 
    • Check for recorded instrument cluster (IC) DTCs from the continuous and on-demand self-tests.
    • Are any instrument cluster (IC) DTCs recorded? 
    1. YES  : MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article.
    2. NO  : Go to  AR7.
  7. AR7 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (IC) OPERATION 
    • Disconnect the instrument cluster (IC) connector.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • damaged pins
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect the instrument cluster (IC) connector and make sure it seats correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new instrument cluster (IC). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
