Pinpoint Test E: B2A20 - Ignition Stuck In Start

CAUTION: Use the Flex Probe Kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multi-meter probes.
  1. E1 CHECK THE IGNITION SWITCH MECHANICAL FUNCTION 
    • Inspect the ignition switch for mechanical function. Refer to Ignition Switch - Mechanical Component Test in this article.
    • Is the ignition switch OK? 
    1. YES  : Go to  E2.
    2. NO  : INSTALL a new ignition switch. REFER to Ignition Switch . CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test.
  2. E2 CHECK THE IGNITION SWITCH FOR A SHORT 
    • Carry out the Ignition Switch - Electrical Component Test. Refer to appropriate COMPONENT TESTING article.
    • Is the ignition switch OK? 
    1. YES  : For non-hybrid vehicles, go to  E3.

      For hybrid vehicles, go to  E7.

    2. NO  : INSTALL a new ignition switch. REFER to Ignition Switch . CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test.
  3. E3 CHECK CIRCUIT CE619 (BU/BN) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    NOTE: To access the SJB connector, the floor console must be removed.
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: TR Sensor C167
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280b
    • Disconnect: PCM C175b
    • Disconnect: BJB Starter Diode
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between SJB C2280b-32, circuit CE619 (BU/BN), harness side and ground.

    • Is voltage present? 
    1. YES  : REPAIR circuit CE619 (BU/BN). CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test.
    2. NO  : Go to  E4.
  4. E4 ISOLATE THE PCM 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Connect: PCM C175b
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between SJB C2280b-32, circuit CE619 (BU/BN), harness side and ground.

    • Is voltage present? 
    1. YES  : Go to  E9.
    2. NO  : Go to  E5.
  5. E5 CHECK CIRCUIT CDC35 (BU/WH) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between TR sensor C167-4, circuit CDC35 (BU/WH), harness side and ground.

    • Is voltage present? 
    1. YES  : REPAIR circuit CDC35 (BU/WH). CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test.
    2. NO  : Go to  E6.
  6. E6 ISOLATE THE TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Connect: Transmission (TR) Range Sensor C167
    • Connect: BJB Starter Diode
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between SJB C2280b-32, circuit CE619 (BU/BN), harness side and ground.

    • Is voltage present? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new TR sensor. REFER to AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION - CD4E article. CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test.
    2. NO  : Go to  E10.
  7. E7 CHECK THE START CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    NOTE: To access the SJB connector, the floor console must be removed.
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280b
    • Disconnect: PCM C175b
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between SJB C2280b-32, circuit CDC35 (BU/WH), harness side and ground.

    • Is voltage present? 
    1. YES  : REPAIR circuit CDC35 (BU/WH). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    2. NO  : Go to  E8.
  8. E8 CHECK THE PCM FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Connect: PCM C175b
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between SJB C2280b-32, circuit CDC35 (BU/WH), harness side and ground.

    • Is voltage present? 
    1. YES  : Go to  E9.
    2. NO  : Go to  E10.
  9. E9 CHECK THE PCM CONNECTORS 
    • Disconnect: PCM C175b
    • Check the PCM connector for:
      • corrosion.
      • pushed-out pins.
      • spread terminals.
    • Connect: PCM C175b
    • Make sure the connectors are seated correctly, then operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS - 2.3L article for 2.3L engines and ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS - 3.0L (4V) article for 3.0L engines. CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
  10. E10 CHECK THE SJB CONNECTORS 
    • Check SJB connector C2280b for:
      • corrosion.
      • pushed-out pins.
      • spread terminals.
    • Connect: SJB C2280b
    • Connect: SJB C2280e
    • Make sure the connectors are seated correctly, then operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
