Pinpoint Test H: All The STOPLAMPS Are Inoperative

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Mercury Mariner and 2008 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
  1. H1 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE STOPLAMP SWITCH
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Stoplamp Switch C278
    • Measure the voltage between the stoplamp switch C278-2, circuit SBP02 (YE/RD), harness side and ground.
    • Fig 1: Checking Circuit For Voltage

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
    1. YES  : Go to  H2.
    2. NO  : VERIFY the SJB fuse 2 (15A) is OK. If OK, go to  H3.
  2. H2 CHECK THE STOPLAMP SWITCH
    • Connect a fused (10A) jumper wire between the stoplamp switch C278-2, circuit SBP02 (YE/RD), harness side and the stoplamp switch C278-1, circuit CCB08 (VT/WH), harness side.
    • Fig 2: Connecting Fused Jumper Wire

    • Are the stoplamps illuminated?
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new stoplamp switch. REFER to Stoplamp Switch . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : REPAIR circuit CCB08 (VT/WH) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. H3 CHECK CIRCUIT SBP02 (YE/RD) FOR AN OPEN
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280d
    • Measure the resistance between the stoplamp switch C278-2, circuit SBP02 (YE/RD), harness side and the SJB C2280d-13, circuit SBP02 (YE/RD), harness side.
    • Fig 3: Measuring Resistance

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
    1. YES  : Go to  H4.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  4. H4 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION
    • Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • damaged pins
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present?
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
