Pinpoint Test Ab: The Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) Are Inoperative

  1. AB1 VERIFY THE DRL OPERATION 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Place the headlamp switch in the OFF position.
    • If equipped with an automatic transaxle, place the gear selector lever in any gear other than PARK (P).
    • If equipped with a manual transaxle, release the parking brake.
    • Do the DRL illuminate? 
    1. YES  : The system is operating correctly. INFORM the customer of the conditions required for the DRL to operate correctly.
    2. NO  : Go to  AB2.
  2. AB2 CHECK FOR RECORDED SJB DTCs 
    • Review the recorded results from the SJB self-test.
    • Are any DTCs present? 
    1. YES  : REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article.
    2. NO  : Go to  AB3.
  3. AB3 CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE HEADLAMPS 
    • Place the headlamp switch in each of its positions (including autolamps if equipped) and observe the headlamps.
    • Do the headlamps and autolamps (if equipped) operate correctly? 
    1. YES  : Go to  AB4.
    2. NO  : REFER to Headlamps  or Autolamps .
  4. AB4 CHECK THE IGNITION SWITCH INPUT 
    • Place the headlamp switch in the OFF position.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: DataLogger
    • Monitor the SJB ignition switch PID (IGN SW) while cycling the ignition switch through all its positions.
    • Does the PID agree with the ignition switch positions? 
    1. YES  : For vehicles with an automatic transaxle, go to  AB5.

      For vehicles with a manual transaxle, go to  AB6.

    2. NO  : REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article.
  5. AB5 CHECK THE TRANSAXLE GEAR INPUT 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: DataLogger
    • Monitor the PCM transmission gear status PID (TR) while placing the gear selector lever through all its positions.
    • Does the PID agree with the gear selection? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : REFER to AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION - CD4E article or AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION - ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (ECVT) article.
  6. AB6 CHECK THE BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR OPERATION 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Apply and release the parking brake while observing the brake warning indicator.
    • Does the brake warning indicator operate correctly? 
    1. YES  : Go to  AB7
    2. NO  : REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (IC), MESSAGE CENTER, AND WARNING CHIMES article.
  7. AB7 CHECK SJB FOR DRL CONFIGURATION 
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: SJB Module Programming
    • Check the SJB configuration and make sure the DRL feature is enabled.
    • Is the SJB DRL configuration enabled? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : ENABLE the DRL configuration. TEST the system for normal operation.
